"Equitarian" efforts are a cause very near and dear to our hearts. The term "equitarian" has been recently adopted in this country to describe humanitarian-type outreach to the working equids of the world. The AAEP defines a working equid as "a horse, mule or donkey that is used primarily for family income, agriculture and/or transportation." There are an estimated 100 million working equids in the developing world. The great thing about equitarian organizations is that they help the animals stay healthy and well-cared for, and by doing so they help the families that depend on these animals for survival.
As we said, Equitarian programs are very important to us at Twin Pines Equine, and we plan to become more involved as our practice grows. We'll continue to update you on our efforts to help the working equids of the developing world, and let you know how you can help. This year we were able to provide a small donation to one of these organizations. If you are able to offer any contributions, even the smallest amount would go a long way in helping these horses and their families.
