Since our patients can’t talk to us, we need other methods to determine what is going on. We have multiple ways of imaging various parts of the horse from skeletal and soft tissue structures, to the upper airway and the other end! All of our imaging modalities are battery-operated, so there is no need for a plug. Wherever your horse is located, we can get there and get the job done!
Digital Imaging
Radiography
At Twin Pines Equine, we offer Digital Radiography (DR). DR makes it possible to take x-rays (radiographs) on your farm, so we get instant results! We can manipulate the digital image if necessary, and then email it to you to maintain a complete record.
Ultrasound
In addition to DR, we are equipped with a fully mobile, compact, battery-powered digital ultrasound. With this, TPE can image a majority of your horse. Ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool and we’re excited to be able to provide this service to our clients.
Our battery-operated Exago unit comes with multiple probes. This allows us to visualize many regions of the body including:
- Tendons/Ligaments
- Joints
- Abdomen
- Thorax
- Rectal/Reproductive tract
- Eyes
- Local Swellings
Endoscopy
Our Endoscopy service offers a minimally invasive diagnostic tool that allows for the direct visualization of your horse’s internal structures. This procedure is invaluable for investigating respiratory issues, evaluating the upper airway, and diagnosing conditions within the nasal passages, throat, and lungs.
Utilizing a flexible tube equipped with a camera and light, our experienced veterinarians can observe and capture images or videos of the affected areas, providing critical information for accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment plans. Endoscopy is performed with the highest standards of safety and care, ensuring minimal discomfort for your horse.
Gastroscopy
The Gastroscopy service is a specialized form of endoscopy focused on examining the stomach and early part of the intestine to diagnose and assess conditions such as ulcers, inflammation, and other gastrointestinal issues. This procedure is essential for horses showing signs of abdominal discomfort, weight loss, or poor performance.
By inserting a long, flexible endoscope into the stomach through the mouth, our team can directly visualize the lining of the stomach, identifying any abnormalities and guiding the most effective treatment strategies. Gastroscopy is conducted under sedation to ensure the comfort and safety of your horse, providing valuable insights into their gastrointestinal health.
